GALAPAGOS ISLANDS:

Is flying yourself to the Galapagos on your bucket list? Wondering if you could make it happen with a private plane? Well, here are some facts that might help clarify some of the misconceptions that exist regarding flying a private plane to the Galapagos Islands.

  • If you have an 800 Nm range and your aircraft burns Jet A, you can do it!

  • There are 3 airports in the islands, one with Jet A fuel. Services at each airport are limited (GPU, LAV, etc.) so it is important to identify what you will need to ensure that it is coordinated.

  • All 3 airports have overnight parking (with prior approval), however your wingspan cannot exceed 35 meters (114 feet).

  • There are resorts available on all the islands accessible via the 3 airports

  • To fly to the Galapagos, you must depart from mainland Ecuador via Quito (SEQM) or Guayaquil (SEGU). Before departure, you must first undergo disinsection and obtain the required approvals and pay the necessary fees.

  • To fly to SEII, special procedures do apply, and you will need to hire a certified Ecuadorian pilot.

  • When you depart the Galapagos, you must first return to mainland Ecuador, you cannot fly to another country from the Galapagos. However, you do not need to necessarily return to SEQM and SEGU, you can also choose Manta (SEMT) if it is more convenient for you.

Many people dream of visiting the Galapagos but may be uncomfortable with flying to the islands on an unknown airline or having to spend many days and nights on a boat. However, if you have a private plane that burns Jet A and you plan it right, you can have the best of both worlds by flying out to the islands on your aircraft and having the flexibility to create your own itinerary by moving from island to island with your plane.

There are regulations and procedures that must be followed and there are certain restrictions on airport operating times and parking availability so you will need the right guidance and support for planning these flights. The good news is that CST Flight Services can make it happen! Gie us a call or send us an email and we will be happy to discuss flying your private plane to the Galapagos Islands with you.
